The Weaponization of Therapy-Language and Feminism
In the past couple years, it has been very difficult for me to sympathize with men, thus there have been few that, as a woman, I look up too and admire their actions. Two of those men were Jonah Hill and Justin Baldoni. Knowing these men are celebrities and there is a lot of information I will never know about them, their outward appearance to the public was of someone who was sensitive and compassionate to the female experience. Unfortunately, both of these men have proven to use those tactics as a weapon against women. Hill, therapy language, like "boundaries" to limit what his girlfriend could post on social media, which usually was regarding what she was wearing. Another instance in which a woman's body/clothes/intentions are sexualized, even after she expressed the pictures in a bathing suit were to promote her surfing career. Baldoni, on the other hand, who's known for his "Man Enough" podcast that promotes the enlightenment of male priveledge, as just been accuse of sexual harassment in the workplace against a female costar. These are the men that I had hope in, that claimed they did the "work," and that I was willing to stand up for, but they still let me down. We encourage our men to go to therapy and be feminists, but what if that is something that's also used against us?
